The future of durum wheat between genetics, sustainability, and industry
A key event in the field of durum wheat research and the pasta supply chain. Researchers, seed companies, international institutions, and industry representatives will come together to discuss genetic innovation, agricultural sustainability, climate adaptation, and emerging industrial scenarios. A clear example of how science and business can join forces to shape the future of Mediterranean agri-food systems.
Durum wheat in the era of genetic improvement 5.0
Following welcome remarks from the Chairs, Agata Gadaleta and Roberto Tuberosa, alongside other key figures from the research and policy worlds, the conference will open with a session dedicated to durum wheat genetic improvement in the 5.0 era. Maurizio Martina (FAO) will highlight the crucial role of agricultural research in ensuring food security, followed by Augusto Becerra (ICARDA), who will present the role of durum wheat within the global strategy for drylands.
Ali Rhouma (PRIMA Foundation) will showcase Mediterranean projects aimed at sustainable agriculture. Molecular genetics will be at the heart of presentations by Marco Maccaferri and Luigi Cattivelli, who will discuss how tetraploid resources and the Svevo 02.0 genome can enhance varietal selection efficiency. Curtis Pozniak (Canada) will introduce multi-omics techniques, while José Crossa (CIMMYT) will demonstrate the application of artificial intelligence in predicting agronomic traits. The afternoon will focus on agronomic sustainability.
