Julia Child, with her charming personality and ability to break down complex recipes into simple steps, became an icon in the cooking world. She had a remarkable talent for connecting with her audience, unveiling the mystery behind ethnic dishes in a way that encouraged budding chefs and everyday cooks to try it at home. Her rise to stardom began with her bestselling cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, first published in 1961. The popularity of the cookbook launched the creation of the public television show, The French Chef, which first aired in 1963 and had a 10-year run. The show was a smash hit, winning numerous awards and accolades, making Julia Child arguably the first, and perhaps one of the best-known celebrity chefs in the United States.
