Ralph Raulli and Los Angeles Macaroni
Macaroni magnate Ralph Raulli had a tremendous impact on pasta manufacturing in Southern California in the early to mid-twentieth century. Raulli was born in 1888 in Raiano, Italy, immigrated to the United States in 1905 and settled in Los Angeles.
At the age of 27, he founded the Los Angeles Macaroni Company. He later founded the Raulli Macaroni Company and the Sunland Biscuit Company with factories in Los Angeles and San Diego. He was one of the first from the West Coast of the United States to join the National Macaroni Manufacturers Association (now the National Pasta Association), becoming a member in 1927 and later serving on the board of directors.
Ralph Raulli claimed in a 1940 newspaper ad that the original plant for his product made 300 pounds (135 kilograms) of pasta per day in 1911, which was perhaps his first foray into the business.
