Favro Macaroni
Silvio Favro emigrated from Avigliana, Italy in 1914 with his wife Annetta and settled in Pocatello, Idaho. He began his career as a laborer, but in August 1915, after about a year of living in Pocatello, he filed a patent application for a macaroni drier that was granted in April 1916. The drier was of simple construction, consisting of an enclosed structure with controlled air flow and ventilation.
In February 1916, he founded the Gate City Macaroni Company in Pocatello with Ben Castellini, Virgilio Catellini, A. Castellini and Adelphi Favro. In the few short years after coming to America, Silvio quickly established himself in the northwest region as an expert in the pasta industry. Indeed, Porter-Scapelli Macaroni Company in Kenton, Oregon and the well-established Imperial Macaroni Company in Butte, Montana used the patented Favro dryer, both claiming it created a superior product made in a dustless, sanitary manner.
About 1918, Silvio and his family moved to Portland, Oregon where he became a foreman of a macaroni factory9. About 1928, he moved to Seattle, Washington and started the Favro Macaroni Manufacturing Company.
